Job Description

As Council's Community Development Officer, you will enhance Council's capacity to engage with the community, deliver impactful projects, and support the development of key frameworks and work plans, all while collaborating with community groups to foster stronger connections.

In this role, you'll:

  • Lead the development, delivery, implementation, and evaluation of community development initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team to achieve positive outcomes for both the community and the organisation.
  • Elevate Council’s community development practices to align with the diverse needs, expectations, and strengths of our community.
  • Build community capacity by working with both the community and the organisation to explore new opportunities and innovative approaches.
  • Enhance the organisation's understanding and application of community development principles and practices.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic documents, such as community development frameworks, strategies, and action plans.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Engage and collaborate with community groups and members to deliver high-quality outcomes.

This is a maternity leave cover from November 2024 to July 2025, offering an annual salary range of $95,013 - $102,899 plus 11.5% superannuation.

You'll have the flexibility of hybrid working from home and in our modern, sustainable Malvern Town Hall at 311 Glenferrie Road, Malvern—surrounded by cafés, restaurants, shops, and public transport.

Desired Skills and Experience

What you'll need to thrive in this role:

  • Proven experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating community development projects.
  • A strong track record of developing and implementing community development strategies, frameworks, campaigns, and action plans that yield positive outcomes for the community.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of community groups.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Community Development, Social Work, Community Engagement).
  • Desirable: Professional certification in communications, change management, or engagement, along with a solid understanding of local government operations.
  • A driven and enthusiastic approach, with the confidence to challenge the norms and question the status quo.
