Job Description

We are seeking a visionary leader to shape the future of active living and community engagement in the City of Stonnington. This is an exciting opportunity to oversee high-impact projects and lead a dedicated team committed to enhancing community well-being.

As the Manager, Active Communities, you will report to the Director, Community & Wellbeing, and guide a diverse team delivering critical services such as Sport & Active Recreation, Leisure Services, Middle Years & Youth Services, and support programs for older adults. Your strategic leadership will ensure these services are innovative, inclusive, and aligned with the City’s overarching vision.

In this pivotal role, you will spearhead initiatives that foster greater community participation and active lifestyles. You will be at the forefront of driving progressive solutions, managing key stakeholder relationships, and inspiring your team to deliver excellence. Your leadership will directly contribute to elevating the quality of life for all residents.

  Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Active Communities portfolio, ensuring services are responsive to the evolving needs of a diverse community.
  • Champion innovation and inclusivity in programs that promote active living and community engagement.
  • Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to deliver impactful, sustainable initiatives.
  • Strategically manage resources while navigating the complexities of community and political environments.

Desired Skills and Experience

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience managing large, multifaceted portfolios.
  • A tertiary qualification in Recreation, Business Management, or a related discipline.
  • Strong financial management expertise, with experience in budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated success in areas such as aquatics, community facilities, or youth services will be highly regarded.

What We Offer:

This is a full-time, fixed-term role offering a competitive remuneration package of $175k - $195k (including superannuation). You will have the opportunity to lead impactful, community-focused projects, collaborate with a dynamic and passionate team, and play a key role in shaping the future of active communities in Stonnington.
