Job Description

  • Make a significant contribution within the Operations department by maintaining the city’s population of Council owned waste bins by carrying out waste collection duties as directed without risk to yourself or others
  • Maintain Councils population of mobile general rubbish and Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) bins, working with the Business Support Officer to order and restock the supply
  • Maintain the bin storage area in an orderly and clean manner
  • Communicate with residents/retailers to ensure new bins are picked up, delivered and maintained
  • Reporting back feedback to administration and management teams to initiate bin maintenance or rectification processes as required
  • Depot duties include vehicle maintenance checks, reporting vehicle faults, cleaning and wash down.
  • Receive bins at Councils depot, assemble bins for delivery and repair bins as required
  • Install bin tactile symbols as required
  • Coordinate and manage bins for Council events
  • Consistently stocktake the bin inventory and spare parts stored at the Depot and arrange for the recycling of unusable stock
  • For returned bins in good condition, wash and repair bins for reuse
  • Undertake audits for the type and quantity of bins at a property as required

This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary of $84,376 + 11.5% superannuation. You are based within our bright, modern and sustainable Tooronga Depot office which is located next to Tooronga Train Station and walking distance to Tooronga Village Shopping Centre.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Skills in operating a waste collection vehicle and forklift (or similar) in a safe and efficient manner
  • Understanding of the occupational health and safety requirements in the waste collection industry
  • Capacity to safely perform a variety of physical tasks and maintain awareness of basic exercises for the purpose of preparing before the commencement of a collection run
  • Skills to enable effective communication with management, staff and customers with regards to information needs
  • Precision driving skills to complete tasks comfortably and confidently
  • Ability to positively contribute to a team environment and be a productive team member as well as being able to work in an individual capacity.
  • Flexibility to ensure targets are met within adequate timelines
  • Proven ability to work safely with an outdoor works environment
  • Knowledge of safe Manual Handling Techniques and Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Current Victorian Heavy Rigid Licence (or greater)
  • Current Victorian Forklift Licence or the ability to obtain
  • Basic knowledge of use of hand tools
  • Skills in operating a waste collection vehicle and forklift (or similar) in a safe and efficient manner​​​​​​​
