We’re looking for a forward-thinking communicator to shape the long-term voice of Stonnington. In this role, you’ll set the direction for how we connect with our community, championing campaigns that reflect our city’s diversity, aspirations, and future. By combining strategic insight with creative delivery, you’ll help ensure our messages engage, inspire, and make a lasting impact.
What you’ll do
Lead the design and delivery of forward-thinking communications strategies that bring Council’s vision to life.
Provide expert advice to senior leaders, guiding how messages are shaped, shared, and received across diverse audiences.
Inspire and mentor a creative, multi-skilled communications team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous growth.
Oversee engaging campaigns and content that elevate Council’s reputation, strengthen community connection, and ensure a consistent voice across all platforms.
Use insights, data, and trends to measure impact, refine approaches, and identify opportunities to engage in new and better ways.
This is a permanent, full-time position with a salary range of $128,308 – $142,841 + 12% super, plus the benefit of a monthly ADO. You’ll be part of a collaborative organisation that values innovation, inclusion, and professional growth
Desired Skills and Experience
What we’re looking for
A proven strategic communicator with experience delivering high-impact, multi-channel campaigns in complex or community-focused settings.
An inspiring people leader, confident in developing high-performing teams and building a culture of creativity and accountability.
Strong advisory skills, able to influence at an executive level and manage communication risks with professionalism.
A strong grasp of digital and social media trends, and the ability to harness analytics to guide effective decision-making.
What you’ll bring
Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
At least 7 years’ experience in a senior strategic communications role.
Demonstrated success advising senior leaders and navigating sensitive, high-profile, or reputational issues.
