As a key member of our Waste Strategy and Engagement team, you will support the delivery of Council’s Our Future Waste Strategy and help achieve our vision of a circular economy, where materials are reused, recycled, and kept in use for as long as possible. You will also lead research and trials of innovative recycling solutions, with a focus on problematic or hard-to-recycle products and materials, helping to close the loop on waste.
You will also:
Develop and deliver waste avoidance and diversion programs for multi-unit dwellings (MUDs) to improve recycling rates and reduce contamination.
Assess and provide expert advice on Waste Management Plans (WMPs) for new developments to ensure best practice waste management, in line with the Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021 and Victorian planning guidelines.
Drive service and infrastructure improvements at the waste transfer station, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with the Environment Protection Act 2017.

This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary range of $100,066 - $108,372 per annum + 12 % superannuation.
You are based within our bright, modern and sustainable Tooronga Depot office which is located next to Tooronga Train station and walking distance to Tooronga Village Shopping Centre. As a permanent employee you also get access to our wellbeing program, employee assistance counselling program and receive 17.5% additional pay when on annual leave.
Desired Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience delivering waste and recycling projects, particularly in researching and implementing solutions for problematic materials.
Strong understanding of waste transfer station operations, with experience delivering operational and infrastructure improvements.
Proven ability to assess and advise on Waste Management Plans (WMPs), ensuring compliance and alignment with best practice waste management principles.
Experience in developing and implementing waste avoidance and diversion strategies for multi-unit dwellings, including engaging with residents, body corporates, and real estate agents.
Strong project management skills to lead projects from concept through to implementation, delivering results on time and within budget.
Demonstrated experience managing contracts and contractor performance, ensuring service delivery, compliance and value for money.
