Job Description

​​​​​The role is responsible for the day-to-day management of claims against Council, ensuring all matters are processed in accordance with organisational policies, procedures, and statutory requirements. Working in a small and dedicated team of risk professionals, this includes accurately documenting claims, coordinating prompt and effective resolutions, and proactively engaging with insurers, agents, service providers, and internal departments to achieve best practice outcomes and minimise escalations. The position also maintains positive relationships with stakeholders and the public, delivering a consistent and professional standard of service across all interactions.

In addition, the role provides high level administrative and coordination support to the Risk team, including managing correspondence, emails, telephone enquiries, invoicing, and preparing departmental reports. Effective records management of all claims, policies, procedures, and risk management documentation is a core responsibility, ensuring compliance, accessibility, and efficient departmental operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Timely and Compliant Claim Management - All claims received are processed in accordance with established Council policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Effective Stakeholder Engagement - Maintain a positive and professional working relationships with internal departments, and members of the public
  • Proactive Resolution and Risk Mitigation - Claims are actively managed in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes, reduce risk exposure, and prevent unnecessary escalations. Patterns, emerging risks, or complications are identified early and addressed accordingly.
  • Collaborative Escalation and Team Coordination - Complex or high risk matters are promptly escalated to team members or relevant specialists to ensure appropriate oversight and decision making. The role contributes to a collaborative team environment by sharing information, supporting problem solving, and ensuring continuity in claim outcomes
  • Provide effective and efficient administrative support to the Risk team and other areas of Council, as required, 
  • Accurate and Compliant Records Management
  • Maintain administrative coordination of correspondence, emails and telephone enquiries, invoicing, and preparation of reports for the department, ensuring all front line interactions and administrative tasks are handled promptly, professionally, and in line with organisational standards

Join us in this full-time permanent role, offering a competitive salary range of $76,864 - $81,334 plus 12% superannuation and a monthly accrued day off.

Desired Skills and Experience

What you’ll need to succeed:

•    Previous experience in claims administration and with a working knowledge of Local Government.
•    Demonstrated high level of computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Office suite at an intermediate to advanced level.
•    Proficient in MS Office, TRIM (preferred), PULSE (preferred) with a strong ability to apply these skills in a practical work setting.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to gain cooperation and assistance stakeholders
•    Ability to keep an open mind, be objective and be mindful of unconscious bias when dealing with claims received
•    Proven ability to maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with legislative requirements, information security, privacy policies and requirements
