Job Description

Join Our Team as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse – Permanent Part-Time Role Available

Are you passionate about supporting children and families in The City of Stonnington community? We're offering several permanent part-time opportunities for dedicated Maternal and Child Health Nurses to join our team and make a real impact.

To be successful in this role, you will bring a minimum of three years’ experience as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse, along with a strong commitment to evidence-based, family-centred practice.

In this rewarding role, you’ll use your expertise in child development alongside your empathy and strong interpersonal skills to build meaningful, supportive relationships with families across our municipality.

As a Maternal and Child Health Nurse, you will deliver a family-centred service designed to support the health and wellbeing of children aged 0–6 and their families. Through a combination of centre-based consultations and home visits, you'll assess and promote children’s development across physical, emotional, social, and cognitive domains.

You'll play a key role in early intervention - identifying families who may be experiencing vulnerability, empowering them with information and support, and connecting them with relevant services at the earliest opportunity.

22.8 hours per week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

Desired Skills and Experience

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who brings both heart and skill to the role. To succeed, you’ll need to be a confident communicator who can build genuine connections with families from all walks of life. You’ll collaborate comfortably with a wide network of colleagues, service providers, and community organisations, always placing the wellbeing of children and families at the centre of your work.
You’ll be highly organised, with the ability to manage your time effectively across a dynamic caseload. Your assessment and referral skills will be well-developed, helping you identify when families need extra support and guiding them to the right services. An understanding of child protection legislation, including your responsibilities around Mandatory Reporting, is also essential in this role.

To be eligible for this position, you’ll need to have:

  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence – as the role involves home visits across the municipality
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as both a Registered Nurse and a Registered Midwife
  • A recognised postgraduate qualification in Child, Family and Community Nursing – this is a key requirement for the role
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check

Above all, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about early childhood development and committed to supporting families through empathy, knowledge, and respectful care.
