Job Description

As a Strategic Planner you will contribute to shaping our community including housing, infrastructure, environment, and services in this permanent full time role.
You will work with a passionate and committed team, to help shape the future of one of Melbourne’s most dynamic inner-urban environments. Translating ideas into real outcomes for the community, you will work on a diverse range of projects, from activity centres and housing growth to open space planning, heritage and sustainability.

Your role contributes across the full planning lifecycle: from research and strategy development through to planning scheme amendments, and implementation. This role is ideal for a planner who is curious, proactive and motivated to make a meaningful impact through evidence-based planning.

Key Responsibilities:
•    High quality research and analysis that positively contributes to strategies, heritage reviews, urban design frameworks, structure plans and other strategic documents.
•    Project teams supported across the project lifecycle to further the organisation’s goals, including elevated outputs and communications featuring graphics and mapping, and high-quality Council reports. 
•    Collaborative cross-organisational and multi-organisational projects that achieve ‘buy-in’.
•    Engagement of external expertise to support evidence-based planning.
•    Land use and development strategies, policies and guidelines; including Urban Design Frameworks and heritage reviews, are appropriately translated through planning scheme amendments.
•    Planning scheme amendments prepared, and project managed to facilitate timely, accurate and quality decision making.

Join us in this full-time permanent role, offering a competitive salary range of $83,480 - $95,636 this will go up to $85,404 - $97,836 from 1 July, plus 12% superannuation.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

What you’ll need to succeed:

•    Knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and the Planning Scheme
•    Ability to contribute to strategic projects, including project management and community engagement skills
•    Ability to contribute to evidence-based strategies, policies and guidelines for complex urban planning issues
•    Exposure to preparing and developing project proposals that define goals, cost and resource impacts
•    Exposure to processing planning scheme amendments, including key milestones and knowledge of the Amendment Tracking System (ATS)
•    Highly effective communication and collaboration skills to clearly explain and influence specialist issues, and create opportunities for others to be heard
•    A relevant tertiary qualification in urban planning or a closely related field, and at least 1 year professional experience.
