This position will engage on a wide range of municipal projects with a focus on the project management, design, construction supervision and contract administration of projects within the City Projects Department.
This position will manage the projects from start to completion and to ensure the projects are delivered on time and on budget.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide design and construction management for infrastructure and urban design projects incorporating civil engineering and sustainable initiative in drainage upgrades, road refurbishments, traffic treatments, open space, landscape enhancement and urban design improvements
• Ensure all surveys, designs and construction activities are completed according to the annual works program
• Maximise project-delivery rate and minimise delays by planning and early procurement
• Monitor financial performance, including forecasting and report on over expenditures or savings
• Process progress payments and practical completion certificates
• Incorporate sustainable products and research emerging products to reduce environmental impact
• Incorporate water sensitive urban design (WSUD) treatment wherever applicable
• Procure and manage external consultancies as required to ensure successful delivery of multiple capital projects within approved scope, timelines and budget
• Consult with Councils Parks Unit to protect and incorporate street trees in collaboration with Councils arborists
Supervise construction activities and monitor contractors’ performance with reference to the tender evaluation criteria
• Provide input and advice to internal Council teams, including Landscape Design unit, Transport Unit and Sustainable Environment Unit on matters relating to civil engineering and drainage concepts
• Identify appropriate solutions to issues raised generally by the community, with reference to Council standards, design plans and specifications, relevant codes and standards, Traffic and Transport guidelines and other technical documentation.
• Use knowledge of current industry practice relating to civil infrastructure, road safety and traffic management.
• Liaise and consult with internal departments, service authorities and other stakeholders at various stages throughout the project
• Assess the impact of works by utility authorities on infrastructure assets and consult with internal departments, service authorities and other stakeholders at various stages throughout the project
• Engage design consultants and contractors for projects, under Council’s procurement policy, and manage their works

• Supervision of junior engineers / students with regard to Civil and Urban designs, surveying, vehicle crossing applications, trader sign applications and replacement
Join us in this full-time permanent role, offering a competitive salary range of $113,974 - $126,589 plus 12% superannuation and a monthly accrued day off.
Desired Skills and Experience
What you’ll need to succeed:
• A degree in civil engineering is preferred, though relevant formal qualifications may be acceptable with equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrated work experience in civil engineering, preferably in a Local Government context, that showcases applicable skills and knowledge.
• Adequate proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, with strong working knowledge of Civil Site Design and AutoTURN highly regarded. Demonstrate the ability to effectively apply these technical skills in a practical engineering and project delivery environment.
• Proven experience performing a similar role in a comparable capacity within local government or a similar organisation.
• Ability to gain cooperation and assistance from clients, the public, and colleagues, effectively motivating and developing team members in the administration of broadly defined activities.
• Proficient in liaising with counterparts in other organisations to discuss and resolve specialist problems, fostering collaboration and communication across different entities.
• Strong problem-solving skills, requiring the application of specialised methods, procedures, and processes developed from theory or precedent. This involves recognising when established techniques are not appropriate, with guidance not always available within the organisation.
• Strong skills in managing time, setting priorities, and planning and organising work effectively to achieve specific objectives within available resources and set timelines, even under conflicting pressures.
