Job Description

As a Casual Venue Officer at the City of Stonnington, you will be responsible for preparing, maintaining and supporting a range of Council venues, meeting rooms and community facilities for events, functions, meetings and activities. This is a hands-on role requiring flexibility, professionalism and a strong commitment to customer service.

You will work with our team of Venue Officers to support council operations for staff and ensure external and council ran events run smoothly from beginning to end.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Open and close venues for functions, meetings, activities, and events.
  • Prepare venues, meeting rooms, amenities, and community facilities in line with specified requirements, instructions, protocols, and standards (including civic, mayoral, private, community, and Council use).
  • Set up tables, chairs, linen, bars, PA systems, speakers, fridges, catering, crockery, and cutlery as required.
  • Monitor daily use of meeting rooms to ensure they remain clean, operational, hygienic, presentable, and available at all times.
  • Clean venues, community facilities, and meeting rooms to required standards, including Town Hall timber floors, amenities, and commercial kitchens.
  • Accept and store deliveries of goods and consumables.
  • Provide a consistently high standard of customer service to internal and external hirers.
  • Communicate effectively with the Venues Team, and with hirers, to ensure clarity of requirements and expectations.
  • Delivers hands-on assistance (set-ups, pack-downs, equipment management, logistics) that enables the broader team to operate efficiently.
  • Represent Council professionally when dealing with hirers, community members, suppliers, and internal staff.

Join us in this casual role, offering a competitive salary range of $47.17 per hour plus 12% superannuation.

Desired Skills and Experience

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Secondary school qualification or relevant training and experience in maintaining reasonable sized venues and events.
  • Ability to operate a computer, using Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook and relevant Booking Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire and effectively utilise skills gained both on the job and through outside training.
  • Demonstrated capacity to interact with a diverse range of hirers while always maintaining a high degree of confidential and person integrity.
  • High-level customer service, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to gain cooperation and assistance from a variety of stakeholders regarding information needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
