Job Description

This position is responsible for assessing and processing planning applications, having regard to relevant Council policy and planning scheme provisions. This includes negotiating with stakeholders, providing high quality and timely advice regarding planning applications, planning scheme requirements and Council policies to the public and planning applicants as well as preparing accurate written correspondence on planning related matters.

You will get the opportunity to:

  • In this role you are required to:

  • Provide professional and efficient analysis and advice on planning applications, planning scheme requirements and policies to the public and planning applicants. 
  • Implement the Statutory Planning functions of Council to deliver an efficient, accurate and effective service to the community
  • Process permit applications within the statutory framework of State planning legislation to guarantee an efficient, high quality and professional planning service is provided
  • Actively contribute to the development of an integrated and efficient streamlined development approvals system

This is a temporary full time position for 10 months with an annual salary range of $83,480 - $95,636 + 12% superannuation and an accrued day off each month. This is a hybrid role where you will work both from home and within the office. We come together at least 3 days a week so we can collaborate in our vibrant office culture. You will be part of a high performing, cohesive team who are passionate, driven and fun!

When on site you are based within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. We come together at least 3 days a week so we can collaborate in our vibrant office culture.

When on-site you will enjoy modern and sustainable facilities and office spaces. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building.

Desired Skills and Experience

To thrive within this role you will have:
•    Demonstrated organisational skills and capacity to successfully engender a culture of teamwork along with strong influence and negotiating capabilities
•    Hold a sound understanding of the Victorian Planning Policy framework with awareness of current planning, development, economic, social and environmental issues and policy development
•    Appreciation of the diversity of stakeholders in the planning process and experience in effective consultation and working cooperatively with these stakeholders
•    Proven capability to manage and complete multiple tasks with efficiency by setting priorities and having regard to statutory timelines and public expectations
•    Developed aptitude to communicate statutory planning matters clearly and logically, particularly in a written report format and in the area of customer service
•    Technology savvy with well-developed PC skills, with knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications
•    Tertiary qualification in Town Planning or equivalent and some experience in Planning; or related qualification with experience in Planning. Eligibility for corporate membership of the P.I.A and a current driver’s licence.
